Ponting in isolation, Marsh 'all good' after COVID infection

Allrounder Mitch Marsh expected to return to the field 'in a couple of days'; a member of Ricky Ponting's family tests positive to COVID-19 in India

Ricky Ponting and his family are in isolation in India after a family member tested positive to COVID-19, forcing the Australian coach to miss his IPL side's match on Friday night.

Ponting himself has tested negative but his IPL franchise, the Delhi Capitals, confirmed he will remain in isolation for five days given he's a close contact of a positive case.

There have been six confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Capitals camp in the past week, including Australian allrounder Mitchell Marsh.

Marsh had been taken to hospital last week but said on Friday the move was purely precautionary and he expects to return to action in the coming days.

"I'm all good," he told SEN. "I've had just the standard COVID symptoms so it certainly wasn't my choice to go to hospital the other night.

"I'm all sweet so hopefully I'll be back playing some cricket in a couple of days.

"It was a case of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and my franchise Delhi Capitals just looking after me, they wanted me to go there just to get checked up."

New Zealand batter Tim Seifert and Delhi's Australian physio Patrick Farhart were among those to test positive to the virus in the past week.

The news of the positive case in the Ponting family came just hours before Delhi's match against Rajasthan, which Ponting was forced to miss and instead watch from isolation.

"A family member of Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting has tested positive for COVID-19," a statement read on Friday.

"The family has now been moved into an isolation facility and is being well taken care of.

"Ponting himself has tested negative twice subsequently. However, in the best interest of the team, the management and medical team has decided that he will remain in isolation for five days, as he was a close contact.

"He will, therefore, not be present at the ground for tonight's game against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise requests for Ponting and his family's privacy to be respected in the current scenario.

"The condition of all individuals in the bubble who have tested positive so far is being closely monitored. The team looks forward to everyone's speedy recovery."

Delhi's next match is against Kolkata on April 29.
