Coaches name official BBL|11 Team of the Tournament

Australian T20 superstar Glenn Maxwell has missed out on selection in the official KFC BBL|11 team of the tournament despite belting two centuries, including the highest score in the history of the competition.

Opening batters Ben McDermott and Josh Philippe, big-hitting allrounder Daniel Sams and veteran seamer Peter Siddle all received maximum votes to win spots in the XI.

The eight BBL head coaches were asked to pick their best XI from the regular season and that group of four players all received eight votes each.

McDermott topped the run-scoring chart for the tournament with 577 and his stunning back-to-back centuries of 110 not out against the Strikers and 127 against the Renegades were a highlight of the season.

Siddle, who has been selected to captain the star-studded side, is the competition's leading wicket-taker with 29 and has led his Strikers to six straight wins as they charged into the final three last night.

Philippe, who will take the gloves, has enjoyed another standout season, and narrowly missed out on becoming the first Sixers player even to score a century when he finished on 99 not out against the Stars.

Joining those four in the team are Mitch Marsh, who has only played seven matches, and Afghan superstar Rashid Khan (seven votes), Matt Short, Moises Henriques and young gun Hayden Kerr (six votes), as well as Stars English import Joe Clarke and Andrew Tye (five votes).

Sean Abbott (four votes) and Jason Sangha (three votes) have been named as the team’s two x-factor substitutes.

Ten of the 13 players picked were also named in cricket.com.au’s team of the tournament, which was published yesterday.

Our team featured Melbourne Stars skipper Maxwell, who was the tournament's third highest run scorer, Sydney Thunder international Sam Billings and Perth Scorchers spin-bowling allrounder Ashton Agar, who are missing from the team picked by the coaches.
